「Waltz Encores」(1958)と「American Waltzes」(1962)の2on1ＣＤ。両アルバムともに、１８年前日本で初ＣＤ化されて以来のリリースとなる。「ワルツ・アンコール」は、「シャルメーヌ」「グリーンスリーブス」「孤独なバレリーナ」「ラ・ロンド」「ワイオミング」等の有名曲を網羅した、マントヴァーニの最高傑作と言えるアルバム。「アメリカ・ワルツ集」は、「美しきオハイオ」「ミズーリ・ワルツ」「愛しのクレメンタイン」など、往年のポピュラー・ワルツを網羅している。両者とも、申し分のないアルバムである。
Vocalionのリマスタリングについては、オリジナルのデッカとの相違が指摘されてきたが、今回はさほど気にならない。もっとも日本ユニバーサル・ミュージックが、再リリースしない限り、Vocalion盤を聴かざるを得ないのだが…。
マントヴァーニのアルバムを１枚選べと言われれば、ためらうことなくこの「ワルツ・アンコール」を選ぶだろう。
