現在私は４０代半ばです。このスーパーマンシリーズは、私が子どもの頃にはすでに再放送でしたが、毎回楽しみに見ていました。私にとっての元祖スーパーマンは、やはりこのジョージ・リーブスのスーパーマンですね。今見ると１９３０年代、４０年代のギャング映画のようでもあり（出演者の男性が背広にソフト帽）、とても雰囲気がいいです。アメリカの１９５０年代当時の町並みや自動車もかっこいいです。このシリーズは第７シーズン（実際は第６シーズンで終了）まで決まっていたようですが、ジョージ・リーブスはその直前にピストルによる事故（？）で死亡しました。今の私と同じ４０代半ばだったそうです。
現在、日本版でも出ているDVD「ストーリー・オブ・スーパーマン〜スーパーマンの全て〜」でもそのあたりのエピソードやジョージ・リーブスのについても、かなりの時間をさいて紹介されています。ジョージ・リーブスのスーパーマンシリーズでのジミー・オルセン役の人や、（スーパーマンリターンズでも小さな役で出演してているようです）ロイス・レーン役の人も、まだご健在でインタビューに答えています。ロイス・レーン役の人は、クリストファー・リーブの第一作目の少年時代の列車のシーンで少し出ています。
ジョージ・リーブスのスーパーマンは、途中からカラーになっていたのですが、そのことは１０数年程前の早朝の再放送で知りました。昔は白黒テレビで見ていましたので。
「弾よりも速く、力は機関車よりも強く、高いビルディングもひとっ飛び…」日本語版のオープニングは、こんなような文句で始まったと思います。このDVDは英語版のみですので、英語のナレーションですが。
見ていると子どもの頃の思い出も甦ってきました。「子どもの頃は楽しかったな〜」と。

I live life to the edge. I am able to leap small buildings in a single pinch. You know the name with the face heard round the world! But this man is not me! Trying SOOOO hard to do the look-alike he gets caught up in his midst! We sure do can dress a-similar, but we are man-panions of a different calabur. You do not buy him thinking it is me! So quick to spend-so quick to spend! Misrep-resentation is key to understanding what's going on here. Morris the Dog-Wonder clearly does not appear! This should be the dawning of clear sign for you to fimble around for what is nesessity. Filter the origin! Re-wire the time! After all, how sure can one man be when he's running a man-cath-a-lon, all on his own?! NONE!!! Don't buy it in paper-back, it will only wreck the cover. I'm Howard Tuttleman! Dream a-live, Japan!
