(Clair Dederer, Amazon.com)

fiction, non-fiction, amusing, wry I Don't Know How She Does It: The Life of Kate Reddy, Working Mother
. A most amusing story, and quite impressive for Allison Pearson's first novel. A work of fiction, . . . but not quite, because she herself has quite a career while raising children. Funny, . . . but not just that, because it also brings to mind the eternal questions in every working mother's mind. Nonetheless, the book is meant to amuse, and not to ignite a fiery debate over the eternal dilemma of career versus motherhood. Humourous in the style of "The Nanny Diaries", but more of it derived from keen observations of the actual lives of women like the main character. And unlike the other book, ought to be checked out by men, too, especially those married to the likes of Kate Reddy. See also, if you have access, Allison Pearson's essay in the 12MAY2003 issue of Time magazine, "THE MOTHER'S ALPHABET: A Working Mother's Day, from A to Z". ( Allison Pearson is not to be confused with Australian Alison Pearson, an expert and writer on rainforest plants. Our Allison is NOT juggling THAT many balls at once. :-p ) .
